Lately I’ve been wondering why most of us don’t get overly adventurous with our blender drink recipes, sticking to the healthy blender recipes like smoothies and other common drinks.

Bloody Mary with Chilli Vodka

The average household blender is capable of making some amazing drinks that can liven up any party, it can create perfect concoctions for any taste or preference!

So during the holidays I got the blender out and had some fun. Below are some of the recipes I was experimenting with. I hope you like them as much as I did, hick…

Rum and Mango Tropical Crush

Rum and Mango Tropical Crush

You will need:

  • 1 large ripe mango (Peeled and sliced)
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 1/2 fl oz (100ml) rum
  • Sugar for the rim of the glass
  • Crushed ice

Method:

Place the mango and rum, plus 1cup of crushed ice and the juice of the lemon into the blender and give it a good blitz.

Rub the squeezed lemon around the rim of the glass and press into the sugar to give it a nice sugar coating. Place a little more crushed ice into glass and pour in the tropical rum crush.

Note: I recommend using white rum to get the lovely bright orange color in this cocktail. If you only have dark rum (which I actually prefer) then you’ll just have to drink it the way it would be drunk in the tropics not so pretty but very good.

Bloody Mary with Chilli Vodka

The spicy taste within a traditional Bloody Mary is usually provided by Tabasco sauce. Using chilli vodka will give your Bloody Mary a lovely light and clear taste.

Although you can buy chilli vodka, it’s very simple to make, which allows you to produce it at strength to suit.

Chilli Vodka Ingredients:

  • 2 red chillies
  • Bottle of vodka 26 or 40-oz work well (about 1 liter)

Chilli Vodka Method:

Slice the chillies in half, length ways seed them and add them to the bottle of vodka, pop the lid on and give it a good shake, or pour the vodka into a good sized jug mix well and cover.

Leave the chillies to infuse in the vodka overnight, taste and remove them if it tastes spicy enough if not leave for another couple of hours and taste again.

Now your chilli vodka is made up it will keep for a good six months, but you will need to pour it back into a bottle if you infused it within the jug.

Making The Bloody Mary

You will need:

  • 1 cup (8oz /250ml) tomato juice
  • 1 measure chilli vodka
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 celery stalk for stirring (optional)
  • 1 cup (8oz /250ml) crushed ice

Method:

Place all ingredients (apart from the celery of course) into the blender and give it a good whiz.

When you first pour the drink from the blender into the glasses it may look rather pink, but once it begins to settle it will soon take on that deep rich red of the bloody Mary.

Note: For an alcohol free (not so) Bloody Mary just omit the vodka and add a little tobacco sauce instead.

Frozen Margarita Recipe

Everyone loves a great frozen margarita. Ideal for parties or for when you’re having Mexican food, Margaritas are popular everywhere. The key to making a great blender margarita recipe is to have good ingredients.

You will need:

  • 1/2 lime
  • 12 oz (350ml) Sweet and Sour
  • 6 oz (175ml) Tequila
  • 2 oz (60ml) Cointreau (triple sec)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 oz (88ml) lime juice
  • ice cubes

Method:

Fill your blender 3/4 full with ice cubes. Pour alcohol and lime juice over the ice cubes in your blender and use a pulse setting to blend well. You can adjust the amount of ice you use depending on the consistency and thickness of ice you want

Dip the rim of your glass in lime juice and while it’s still moist, dip the rim into a little salt. Cut a thin slice of lime and garnish the top of your glass with the sliver-wheel.

Pour your frozen margaritas into glasses and enjoy.

Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

There’s nothing finer than a smooth frozen strawberry daiquiri at a party or just on a hot summer evening. Add this great daiquiri recipe to your blender drink recipes collection and you can enjoy it whenever you want.

You will need:

  • 6 cups ice
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 4 oz (120ml) fresh strawberries with stalks/stems removed
  • 1/8 cup lime juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup white rum (e.g. Bacardi)
  • 1/4 cup lemon-lime flavored soda

Method:

Place ice cubes in the blender and add sugar and strawberries. Pour lime juice, lemon juice, white rum and soda over. Blend until your daiquiri mixture is completely smooth.

Pour into cocktail glasses. Garnish your glass with a cut fresh strawberry and serve!

Pina Colada Recipe

The wonderful tropical taste of a well-made Pina Colada just can’t be beaten. This old-style drink is ideal for parties or just a night at home with some friends and is a perfect addition to your blender drink recipes collection.

You will need:

  • 6 oz white rum (e.g. Bacardi)
  • 8 oz coconut cream
  • 8 oz pineapple juice
  • 4 cups crushed ice

Method:

Place ice into your blender and pour rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice over it. Blend all ingredients until everything is smooth. Pour into tall glasses.

Garnish the side of your glasses with a slice of pineapple and top with a maraschino cherry held in place with a toothpick.

Orange Surprise

This smooth, refreshing blender drink is perfect for those summer nights or at a party to liven things up.

You will need:

  • 1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
  • 8 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 3 oz coconut rum
  • 3 oz dark rum
  • 3 oz coconut cream
  • 1/2 cup orange juice

Method:

Place all ingredients into the blender and blend until everything is smooth. Pour into glasses. Garnish your glasses with slices of orange and pineapple and top garnish with a maraschino cherry held in place with a toothpick.

Frozen Black Russian

The traditional coffee-flavored cocktail is usually served over ice cubes, but you can’t beat the taste of a Black Russian made with crushed ice from the blender.

You will need:

  • 3/4 oz (25ml) Coffee liqueur (e.g. Kahlua)
  • 1 1/2 oz (50ml) vodka
  • Dash of Cola
  • 4 ice cubes

Method:

Place ice cubes in your blender and crush the ice until you have a slush-type consistency.

Pour crushed ice into a glass and pour vodka and liqueur over the ice. Pour a dash of cola over the ice and serve immediately.

Champagne Fizz

This blender recipe is a variation of an old traditional cocktail. It’s ideal for celebrations, parties or any other occasion.

You will need:

  • Tub of Mango frozen sorbet
  • 1/2 bottle champagne
  • 1 1/2oz (50ml) vodka

Method:

Scoop sorbet out of the tub and place into your blender. Pour some of the champagne into your blender and add the vodka. Blend until the sorbet is smooth. Add more champagne if you prefer a thinner texture or less champagne for a thicker consistency.

Pour into champagne glasses and serve immediately.

Apple Martini

Here’s one of my favorites! To learn this one all you need to do is watch a three minute video 😉

If you take a look elsewhere online you can find many other tasty alcoholic blender drinks. For example cocktails.about.com has a tonne of really good blender drink recipes from the apple Margarita to the Frog in a blender. And Drinksmixer.com has literally hundreds of cocktail recipes, Enjoy!
