Fruit smoothies are becoming more and more popular with people as they realize they can make all kinds of tasty blender fruit drinks. Any combination of fruit can be used to make an easy fruit smoothie recipe.
But remember, fruit drinks are at their best when you use fresh ingredients like fruit instead of frozen, you can tell the difference. All it takes is a little imagination sometimes to create well nourished, healthy blender fruit drinks straight from the blender.
Rhubarb and Orange Smoothie
This rhubarb and orange smoothie is sharp and refreshing, just the thing to wake you up in the morning.
Rhubarb is very tart and needs to be sweetened just to make it palatable but it does contain high levels of vitamin C and B along with calcium and potassium which helps to support a healthy immune system, whilst keeping bones and teeth strong and healthy.
What you will need:
Makes 2 glasses (20 fl oz)
- 2 stalks of rhubarb cut into 1 inch cubes or 1 stick of rhubarb and 1 large apple
- 2 tablespoons of water
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- Cinnamon stick (about an inch long)
- 1 cup (8 fl oz) orange juice
- 1/2 cup (4oz) vanilla yogurt
Method:
Place rhubarb/apple, water, cinnamon stick and sugar into a sauce pan, cover and simmer until soft, set aside until completely cool.
Once cool remove the cinnamon stick and transfer the rhubarb mixture to the blender, add the orange and yogurt and blend until smooth
Apricot Smoothie Recipe
You will need:
- 1 cup apricot halves
- 1 cup yoghurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup natural yoghurt
- 1/2 cup ice
Method:
Place all ingredients for this easy fruit smoothie recipe into the blender and blend until everything is smooth and creamy. Pour into chilled glasses and serve immediately.
Apricot and Almond Fruit Smoothie Recipe
Almonds are an excellent source of vitamin E. Although high in fat, nuts like almonds are comprised of unsaturated fats, which are significantly better for you. The dried apricots are a good source of beta-carotene as well, which is an antioxidant.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup (3 ox/90g) dried apricots
- 3/4 cup (6 fl oz/180 ml) water
- 1/4 cup (1 oz/30 g) unbalanced raw almonds
- 1 1/2 cup (12 fl oz/375 ml) milk
Method:
Combine the apricots and water in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, and then reduce heat to low and allow it to simmer until the apricots are soft. This usually takes around 10 minutes. Set the apricots aside to cool.
Place the apricots and remaining ingredients into a blender and blend until the mixture is smooth and frothy.
This recipe 2 cups, which is around 16 fl oz/500 ml, which serves around 2 people.
Peach Raspberry Fruit Smoothie Recipe
You will need:
- 1 peach, halved with stone removed
- 5 oz (150g) raspberries
- 1/2 cup natural yoghurt
- 1/2cup milk
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
Method:
Place all of the ingredients into the blender and blend until everything is smooth and creamy. Pour into chilled glasses and serve immediately
Spiced Plum Smoothie Recipe
Generally plums, which have a delightful flavor and are a source of vitamins A and C, can vary in size. If the plums are large, 3 will do the trick. If they’re a bit smaller, use 4.
You will need:
- 3-4 red fleshed plums, peeled and pitted
- 1 cup (8 fl oz/250 ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (4 oz/125 g) plain natural yogurt
- Honey to taste
- Pinch of ground cinnamon (or to taste)
- Pinch of ground cardamom (or to taste)
Method:
Just throw the ingredients into a blender, and blend until the mixture is smooth and frothy. Taste and balance the cinnamon and cardamom when needed.
This recipe makes 2 cups or 16 fl oz/500 ml, which will serve 2 people.
Cranberry Heaven Smoothie
Cranberries make for a very easy fruit smoothie recipe and are good for the body. They contain high levels of anti-oxidants and can be a great way to detoxify. They also taste great especially when you add them to a smoothie.
You will need:
- 1 cup cranberries or cranberry juice
- 1 can ginger ale
- 4 ice cubes
Method:
Place all the ingredients into a blender. Blend everything until and serve.
Frothy Apricot Delight
Apricots also make an easy fruit smoothie recipe, and a firm favorite with many kids and adults alike, but nothing beats a cool, frothy apricot drink.
You will need:
- 1 can apricot halves with juice
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 pint lemon sherbet
Method:
Place apricot halves and juice, milk and orange juice into a blender and blend until smooth. Add lemon sherbet and use a pulse setting to combine into the drink until it’s smooth.
Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
