Wheat germ is often described as the powerhouse of nutrients and it makes the following breakfast smoothie recipes excellent supplements or substitutes to your normal breakfast meal.
Oat bran is bursting with vitamins, minerals and fibre and as oat bran falls into the high protein and low GI carbohydrates category it’s particularly good for anyone wanting a weight loss smoothie.
Apricots are deliciously juicy, but not always available or to everyone’s tastes. So, if you’d prefer a different fruit which is in season, then go for it. However If this smoothie is going to be a substitute to your normal breakfast I don’t recommended you omit the banana.
Apricot and Maple Syrup Breakfast Smoothie Recipes
You will need:
- 1 banana, peeled and chopped
- 2 to 3 apricots, peeled and pitted
- 1 cup (8 fl oz/250 ml) milk
- 2 teaspoons wheat germ
- 2 teaspoons oat bran
- 1/2 cup (4 oz/125 g) plain (natural) acidophilus yogurt
- 2-3 teaspoons pure maple syrup (or honey) to taste
Method:
Throw all the ingredients together in a blender, and blend until smooth and frothy. This recipe makes approximately 2 cups (16 fl oz/500 ml), which will make around 2 servings.
Banana and Honey Breakfast Smoothie
Here’s another breakfast blender drink. It’s filling, delightfully tasty and packed with calcium and fiber.
Thus, this smoothie is really good for you! But if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, you can always reduce the amount of honey.
You could also use seasonal fruits instead, if you’d prefer a more refreshing taste.
You will need:
- 250 ml low-fat milk
- 250 ml low-fat yogurt
- 2 tablespoons crushed ice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 banana
- 1 tablespoon wheatgerm
Method:
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until frothy and smooth. Add extra fruit to taste. This quantity will serve anywhere from 2 to 4 servings.
